The fourth grade class at F.E. Burleson Elementary School used a combination of choral music and student readings to pay tribute to the nation’s fighting men and women, past and present, at a Veterans Day Celebration on Thursday.

The school chorus, led by music teacher Debbie Queen, commanded center stage during the tribute, which was held in the school gym with an estimated 100 veterans and other guests in attendance.

The chorus sang a medley of Armed Forces Songs“ during which veterans stood and were applauded as the marching song of their branch of service was sung. It also sang “God Bless the USA,” “Welcome Home,” and “We the People.”

Patriotic readings were given by fourth grade teacher Leah Turner and students Mary Elizabeth Booth, Catherine Keel and Brantley Blaxton.

Third grade Ambassador Brody Boster welcomed guests and David McKelvy and Conner Bodine led the student body in The Pledge of Allegiance.”

Mrs. Queen announced that the school plans to establish a Veterans Memorial Garden in its outdoor classroom next spring.
