Hartselle Enquirer

Review of 2013 season

On the first week of the season, I gave my best case and worst case scenarios for each team. So let’s look back and see how I did.

Hartselle

Best Case – 10-0

Worst Case – 5-5

Actual – 8-2: The inexperience was an issue for Hartselle through the first six games. The injury bug also hit Hartselle hard, losing several key players for a several weeks. But the youthful Tigers are battle-tested and poised to make a run in the playoffs as the Region 8 No. 3 seed.

Outlook: A deep playoff run is possible for the Tigers once again. Muscle Shoals is probably the favorite to win the North, but Hartselle gave them a tough game despite being depleted with injuries. The road isn’t easy starting with a trip to Pinson Valley, but it’s something they’re used to in Region 8.

Falkville

Best Case – 9-0

Worst Case – 6-3

Actual – 8-1: Falkville wound up being region champions thanks to a key non-region win over Donoho. The Blue Devils have been good on defense, but the offense led by Ryan Sullivan has been explosive.

Outlook: The Blue Devils should have a chance to advance to the second round, where a tough matchup with either Hubbertville or Collinsville will give Falkville a chance to make history by advancing to the third round.

Danville

Best Case – 8-2.

Worst Case – 3-7

Actual – 0-10. The Hawks couldn’t overcome its youth, leading to its first winless season in 11 years.

Outlook: A lot will depend on how their new region looks, but the Hawks will improve next season.

Priceville

Best Case – 6-4

Worst Case – 2-8.

Actual: 4-6. If Priceville was 6-4, they would have been in the playoffs, but the Bulldogs just weren’t able to get over the hump.

Outlook: The outlook is bright for Priceville, as the Bulldogs made improvement from last year. They should be fighting for a playoff berth once again in 2014.

Brewer

Best Case – 5-5

Worst Case – 1-9

Actual – 4-6. Brewer took a huge step forward by winning two region games and having a chance to win a couple more.

Outlook: Expect the Patriots to continue to show improvement in 2014 while competing for the playoffs.
