Lady Tigers win area tournament

Hartselle’s Lady Tigers (53-22) claimed championship honors in the Class 5A, Area 15, Volleyball Tournament at home on Tuesday night by sweeping West Point and East Limestone.

They defeated West Point 25-8, 25-9, 25-5 in the opening round and won over East Limestone 25-16, 25-21 25-12 in the championship match.

The Lady Tigers advanced to the Super Regional Tournament at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville, Oct. 25-26. They are scheduled to play at 12:45 p.m. on Friday.

Against West Point, Haley Jared paced Hartselle in scoring with eight kills, six digs, an ace, an assist and a block. Taylor Lybarger had seven kilos, six digs, four aces and a block, Megan Zuck collected seven kills, two digs and two aces, Melissa-Paul Hill had five kills, 22 assists and five digs, Sarah Ellen Battles scored 12 digs, four assists and an ace, Bailey Powell had two kills, Jordan Barbrey had two digs and two aces, Madelyn Cheatham scored five kills and Hannah Warren, Catherine Bodley and Katy Beth Bole each had a dig.

In the win over East Limestone, Jared led the way with 12 kills, nine digs, three blocks and an ace. Lybarger scored 11 kills, nine digs and a pair of aces, Zuck had five kills, two digs and an ace, Hill had three kills and 14 digs, Battles added 14 digs and an ace, Powell had four kills and a dig, Jordan Barbrey added five digs, Bole had three kills and a dig and Cheatham had two kills and a block.
