For the third consecutive week, Priceville scored more than 40 points, averaging 500 yards in each of those games.

However, the Bulldogs (4-3, 2-3) couldn’t keep up with the Haleyville Lions (6-1, 4-1) in 56-45 loss Friday night at Bulldog Stadium.

The Bulldogs and Lions posted more than 100 points and nearly 1,000 yards combined.

Priceville quarterback Kaleb Barker threw for 332 yards, connecting on 25 of 42 passes for four touchdowns while rushing for 110 yards on 23 carries for another score.

Ben Patterson hauled in 11 of Barker’s passes for 200 yards with two touchdowns, while rushing for 12 yards and two more on five attempts.

Brady Sherrill of Haleyville rushed 14 times for 199 yards while scoring five of the Lions’ eight touchdowns.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Lions scored first and often in the second quarter, posting four touchdowns to the Bulldogs’ three, making the halftime score 28-21.

The scoring in the second half was fast-paced again with Haleyville tipping the scales by returning a kickoff for a score and establishing a strong running game and holding on for the win, which was not secured until the final whistle.

Priceville will look to rebound in the next Class 4A, Region 8 game Friday night at home against West Limestone for homecoming. A win coupled by a Wilson loss to East Lawrence could possibly secure a playoff spot for the first time in 4A competition.
