Falkville stomps Eagles, clinches playoff berth

The No. 8 Falkville Blue Devils soared past the Sumiton Christian Eagles 40-0 Friday night at Burl Vest Stadium, clinching at least the No. 3 seed in Class 1A, Region 6.

Falkville (5-0, 5-0) had even scoring, putting 20 points on the board in both halves.

The duo of Ryan Sullivan and Hunter Woodall accounted for 454 of Falkville’s 511 yards of total offense.

Sullivan finished 11 of 19 for 193 passing yards with a touchdown and an interception. He also led the running game with 181 yards on 13 carries with three touchdowns.

His 48-yard touchdown run with 33 seconds left in the first quarter put the Blue Devils on the board at 6-0 after a blocked extra point attempt.

Sullivan would also score on 33-yard touchdown run in the third quarter and a two-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter that capped a 12-play drive.

Woodall accounted for 177 yards himself, rushing for 80 yards and a score on 16 carries and catching six passes for 99 yards and a touchdown. His first rushing touchdown came on an eight-yard run at the 3:06 mark of the second quarter. Sullivan added a two-point conversion.

The two then connected 40-yard touchdown pass as time expired in the first half, giving the Blue Devils a 20-0 lead at the break.

After receiving the second-half kickoff, Falkville went on a 10-play drive spanning 3:06. Lucas Johnson bulldozed into the end zone on a one-yard carry with 8:54 to play in the third quarter.

Other leaders in the statistics included Devin Reed with eight rushes for 54 yards, Cade Wilemon with three grabs for 45 yards and Austin Kritner with three catches for 28 yards.

Zach Garrison led the defense in tackles with eight followed by Mears with seven stops. Tyler Roy, Aaron Estes and Austin Wilhite finished with five tackles each.

Estes also swatted four passes throughout the night and Tyler Woodall had two deflections of his own.

FHS will host Donoho for Homecoming on Oct. 4 at 7 p.m.
