Church seeks donations for Christmas shoe boxes

Shady Grove Baptist Church members are working on their Operation Christmas Shoe Box project and they need your help. Some of the items needed are listed as follows: school supplies, crayons, pencils, small toys, cars, dolls, stuffed animals, hair accessories, washcloths, soap and other items. There is a box in the church foyer by the glass doors for your donations. All support will be greatly appreciated.

Christian love and heartfelt sympathy go out this week to the family of Mrs. Ruby McCay of the Neel community. Mrs. McCay was a long time resident of the area and in recent years had been at Summerford Nursing Home. She passed away on Thurs., Sept. 5. She enjoyed Friday bingo, Sunday singings, her stuffed animals, coloring and word search and especially her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by family and friends and the staff at Summerford’s.

Special belated happy birthday wishes go out this week to Billy Vest, Adam Anderson and Mike Jones on Sept. 16, Briana Callahan, Mark Campbell and Paige Boyd on Sept. 17.

Happy birthday wishes also go out this week to Beth Johnson on Sept.18, Tom Campbell, Kelsey Bell and Summer Terry on Sept. 19, Connie Camp-bell on Sept. 20 and Cameron Boyd on Sept. 21.

Christian love and heartfelt sympathy go out this week to the family of Jim Grissom who passed away on Sat., Sept. 7. Jim and his wife Brenda are known for their former restaurant in Falkville, the Villa. In recent years, Jim was owner and manager of Grissom Real Estate. He was a member of Round Top Community Church.

Friends of Dr. David Parker, a former pastor at McKendree UMC, will be glad to know that he is out of retirement and the new pastor at Double Springs First United Methodist Church. Brother David and his wife Wanda were active in the Massey and Falkville area. He is living in Jasper now. Some will remember that he was an Elvis fan. He was able to attend an Elvis Convention in August. Members from Double Springs commented that they enjoy Brother David’s singing. Good wishes go out to him in his new church assignment.

Happy wedding anniversary wishes go out this week to Richard and Aimee Pittman as they will celebrate their 9th wedding anniversary on Sept. 18.

Neel United Methodist Church has a new pastor, Rev. Jason Green. He is from Lawrence County and is replacing Rev. Mason Booth. Sunday School is at 9:30 a.m., morning worship at 10:30 a.m. and evening service at 6:00 p.m. each Sunday. Visitors are welcome to attend services at Neel United Methodist Church.

There was an Estate Auction at the home of the Late Hoyle Hardwick in Danville Sat., Sept. 7, at 1 p.m. The auction was conducted by Four Oaks Realty and Auction for the estates of Burl and Hoyle Hardwick, Thurman and Vera Sandlin and Bobby R. Sandlin, all of Danville. The auctioneer was Mark Hampton. The descendants of the family are Sandra Sims DeGraffenried, Marla Sims Robinson and Todd Sims. Hoyle Hradwick was known and loved as an elementary teacher at Danville and Speake Schools. All items left from the estate auction were donated to the Danville United Methodist Church.

The Round Top community Church Women have Monday morning Bible Study at 9 a.m. in the Family Life Center. Leaders are Kay Saint and Barbara Summerford.

The Old Massey, New Massey and Windes Elementary Schools annual reunion will be Sat., Oct. 5, at the Massey Fire Station. Photos, stories and memorabilia from those school days are welcome. For more information, call Frances Rowe at 256-462-3875.

Friends and family of Lewie and Peggy Rogers of Johnson’s Chapel community are proud of their recovery from recent illnesses. Lewie had been in Decatur Morgan Hospital and Peggy had been at the E.R. with vertigo. It’s also good news that she is driving again after having several months of recovery from a fall.

Donnie and Mallory Eddy Steel of Falkville have recently moved to Owasso, Okla. Many know them from their employment at Mister Henry’s Restaurant in Hartselle for several years. They were married in June and have relocated for Donnie’s job at an Aircraft Company. Mallory will continue her cosmetology courses. Congratulations and best wishes go out to them as they begin a new life in a new location.
