Family fun in the making

If you enjoy getting out and doing fun things, September is your kind of month.

First, Hartselle’s Depot Days celebration begs for your attention. This giant family-friendly event reaches a climax on Sat., Sept. 21, when thousands gather in the central business district to take in a wide variety of fun things to see and do.

If you like to run, you can suit up and participate in the Depot Days 5K and 1-mile fun runs; if you like gospel and country music, you can sit and listen under the big entertainment tent; if your thing is cars and tractors, you can check out the many antique and classic cars and tractors that will be on display; if you like to climb, ride, slide and jump, you can spend some time in the Kids time in the kid’s carnival; and last but not least, if you like to shop an savor good food, you can patronize the visiting vendors and local stores.

Hartselle Historical Society will salute the city’s police and fire departments with a Down Memory Lane collection of memorabilia at the Hartselle Fine Arts Center on Mon., Sept. 16.

A reenactment of the city’s great bank robbery will follow on stage. Other preliminary events include a community worship service, children’s beauty pageant and a gospel singing.

A week later, the Town of Eva will observe its annual Frontier Days. This week of old-fashioned fun and games is slated for Sept. 21-28.

Preliminary activities include a children’s beauty pageant, a blue grass festival, a community gospel singing and an old-fashioned hayride.

The fun continues on Sat., Sept. 28, with an all-day festival. Featured events include antique tractor and car shows, a street parade and baking contest. The day wraps up on the ball fields with a frog jumping contest and a greased pig chase.

Mark these dates on your personal calendar and have yourself some September fun. I’ll see you there!
