Brewer’s Lady Patriots combined an aggressive offense with a solid defense to sweep Cullman’s Lady Bearcats in a volleyball season opener at home on Thursday.

In a best three of five games match, the Lady Patriots posted winning sets of 25-9, 25-21 and 25-19. The visitors trailed throughout the first two sets and led only twice in the third and final set.

“I was pleased with the way they played this being their first game,” said Brewer head coach Ron Smith. “They stayed focused for the most part and didn’t commit very many errors. They came ready to play and did what they needed to do to win.”

Riley Northway paced Brewer with 11 kills while Cheyenne McLemore added 10 kills and 14 digs. Savana Flack had eight kills, Emily Oden posted 12 assists and Kelsey Nethery had three aces.

Brewer’s JV team also posted an impressive win, 25-20, 25-16 and 25-20.
