Edward Derrill Tomblin

Funeral for Edward Derrill Tomblin, 78, of Danville was Thurs., Aug. 29, at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Macon Road Chapel in Columbus, Ga., with the Rev. Jim Hilderbrand officiating.

Mr. Tomblin died Mon., Aug. 26, at his residence. He was born in Columbus, Ga., Sept. 11, 1934. He was a 1952 graduate of Columbus High School and a 1956 graduate of the University of Georgia. He valued God, country and family. He served in the U.S. Army Artillery for more than 20 years and retired as a major. He was a Vietnam veteran for two tours. He was a member of McKendree United Methodist Church and a charter member of VFW Post #5162 of Huntsville. Mr. Tomblin was preceded in death by his father, Edgar Collis Tomblin; his mother, Virginia O. Tomblin; and a brother, Dr. Collis Nelson Tomblin.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Edith B. Tomblin of Danville; two daughters, Carol Tomblin of Madison and Vicki Tomblin Smith and husband Ron of Lacey’s Spring; two sons, Eric Derrill Tomblin and wife Sherry of Huntsville and Jim Edward Tomblin of Danville; a sister-in-law, Glynn Tomblin of Columbus, Ga.; five granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and other family members.

In lieu of flowers, thr family request contributions be made in memory of Mr. Derrill Tomblin to McKendree United Methodist Church, 2795 Hwy. 55 W., Danville, AL 35619.
