Falkville changes sales tax collector

Falkville Town Council voted to use Morgan County to collect sales, use and rental taxes at its regular monthly meeting Tuesday night. The service has been provided in the past by the State Revenue Department.

Mayor Bob Ramey said by contracting the service to the county the town will be receiving its tax revenue in a timelier manner and saving money.

The governing body also approved an amended ambulance ordinance and authorized expenditure up to $3,800 for repairs to a sidewalk on East Main Street.

The Council acted on other matters as follows:

•Approved a joint funding agreement between the town and the U. S. Geological Survey for $15,900.

•Approved a contract with Local Government Corporation for $9,941.50

for computer maintenance, effective Oct. 1, 2013, through Sept. 30, 2014.

•Approved a contract with Morgan County Emergency Management District to provide police dispatch $1,779.43 per month, effective Oct. 1, 2013 through Sept. 30, 2014.

•Approved $100 for a full page advertisement in the Falkville High School football program

•Voted to declare two local government computers as surplus property.

•Approved $254 plus expenses for Town Clerk Dawn Estes to attend clerk training in Tuscaloosa Aug. 28-30.

•Approved the purchase of prescription eyeglasses for an employee, as a result of them being broken on the job.

Mayor Ramey reported that the Utilities Department is replacing and relocating a galvanized iron water line from under Second Street to under the sidewalk to eliminate breakages resulting from road traffic. He also said he expects the street to be ready for resurfacing before the start of school Aug. 19.
