Lady Hawks advance to sub-state play

DOUBLE SPRINGS – Danville finished second in the Class 3A, Region D tournament at Winston County High School Saturday after reaching the championship match before losing to Winston County.
Winston County beat Danville 25-19, 25-8, 26-24 in the region finals.
Danville beat Cordova 25-19, 25-16, 25-12 and Holly Pond 25-22, 25-17, 25-15 to reach the championship.
The Lady Hawks improved to 52-20 overall with the two wins.
The Lady Hawks were scheduled to host Madison Academy in a substate match today with the winner securing a trip to the Elite Eight tournament in Pelham.
Danville and Madison Academy met in the sub-state round last season with the Lady Hawks winning in the five-game match that sent Danville to the Elite Eight tournament for the fifth straight season.
Lindsay Simmons led Danville with 49 kills and five blocks, while Ashley Nance added 31 kills and three blocks.
Kaitlin Wallace had 97 assists, six aces, three blocks and 24 digs for the Lady Hawks.
Danville also got 43 digs from Lacey Evans. Morgan Doherty added 27 digs. Jada Callahan finished with a team-high five aces.
Priceville ousted
Priceville’s season came to an end with a loss to Good Hope in the Clas 4A, Region D tournament at Good Hope.
Good Hope swept the best-of-five first round match with Priceville.
