Brewer High School concluded its 23rd annual Girls Basketball Camp on Friday evening with 58 campers, ranging from second through ninth grades, demonstrating skills they learned during the previous five days.

“We had a good camp with everyone that participated showing great effort to listen and learn,” said Brewer head girl’s basketball coach Ricky Allen. “As usual, on the final day we hand out Camp T-shirts, give out some awards and let the girls put on a s how for the benefit of their parents and grandparents.

“One of the things that stands out about this camp is the number of kids we pulled in from outside of our school district,” Allen stated. “We had a kid from Locust Fork, three from Arab and J.B. Pennington and two from Cullman County.”

“It helped me improve my ball-handling skills,” said Jessie Privett, a ninth grader. “A lot of emphasis was placed on ball control and learning what we need to know to play the game the way it’s supposed to be played. I’m already looking forward to next year when I will be able to teach younger players at camp.”

“This is my first year at camp,” said Kameron Bramlett, a recent graduate of Cotaco Junior High School. “I’m working hard to improve my game and I’m looking forward to playing junior varsity at Brewer.”

“We have learned lots of new things,” said Union Hill third grader Allison West. “I get so tired doing drills on my knees that they started to sweat.”

“They all have a really good attitude and have worked hard,” said Carlee Landers, a sophomore who helped at camp for the first time. “I have learned a lot from helping teach them.”
