Funeral for Earl Claxton Warren, 87, will be Sun., May 12, at 2 p.m. at Hartselle Church of Christ in Hartselle with Ministers Phillip Hines and Tommy Dozier officiating.

Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens in Hartselle.

Visitation will be at Peck Funeral Home in Hartselle on Sat., May 11, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Mr. Warren died on May 9, 2013, at his residence with family at his bedside. He was born June 12, 1925, in Jefferson County to Elijah Ewing and Willie Mae Stephenson Warren.

Earl volunteered in the Untied States Army at the age of 17 during World War II. Six days past his 18th birthday while serving in the European Theater with the 2nd Ranger Battalion, he landed at Pointe du Hoc, France. Upon returning home from serving his tour in WWII, he graduated from Madison County High School where he received a four-year football scholarship at Tennessee Tech and earned his MBA from Memphis State. Earl was affectionately known as “Coach.” He was a teacher and coach of basketball, football and baseball for 11 years. His last employment was as an agent with ALFA Insurance for 30 years. He was active in many civic activities, such as, Kiwanis, Rotary, School Board, Chamber of Commerce and many others in Hartselle. He was inducted in DeKalb County Sports Hall of Fame in 2000 and Morgan County Sports Hall of Fame in 2009. Chairman of the Hartselle Housing Authority for 19 years, the OWO Gymnasium was named in his honor Osborne, Warren and Oden. Earl served his Lord as an elder at Hartselle Church of Christ for 24 years, song leader for 47 years and Bible teacher for 50 years. He served as a missionary to Romania several trips.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Anna Louise Alverson Warren; daughter, Linda Susan Warren; his parents; two sisters, Louise Bent and Wilma Campbell; and a brother, Marvin Warren.

He is survived by wife, Christine E. Richardson Warren; a daughter, Susan Warren Nolen; a grandson, Justin Turner and wife Jennifer, all of Hartselle; a stepson, Joey Richardson, wife Rachel and daughter Taylor of Dora; a stepdaughter, Kathy Dawson of Jasper; two brothers, Malcolm “Craw” Warren and wife Jane of Bessemer and Benjamin “Chick” Edward Warren and wife Jane of Scottsboro; two sisters, Sue Hawkins of Mobile and Faye Fuchs and husband Ron of St. Charles, Ill.; four step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; 12 nephew; and six nieces.

Pallbearers will be Alan Walker, Tony Parker, James Kifer, Glen Waddell, Bob Jacques and Mike Roberson. Honorary pallbearers are Greg Teague, Louie McGill, Clarence Walls, Talmadge Reynolds, Hoyt Long and Jeff Johnson.
