Book club shares its love of reading

Joining together to discuss the latest teen fiction works are Hartselle Junior High School students (L-R) Claire Forsythe, Lauren Ellis, Natalie Davis, Katie Glasgow and Madison Williams.

The Hartselle Enquirer is teaming with students from Hartselle Junior High School to offer weekly reviews of some of the latest books targeted at the teen market. We’re kicking off this series with a look  at one of the groups benefiting from the reading emphasis.

A group of Hartselle Junior High School students are learning to love – and share – the joy of reading.
The group of girls has formed a book club to read and discuss the latest novels targeted at the teen market. They started the group last year and, despite hectic schedules, are continuing this year.
“We found out we had the same taste in books and wanted to get together to discuss them,” book club member Lauren Ellis said.
The group reads one chapter a week then meets in the library during homeroom to discuss.
The group is just one of the steps the junior high is taking to increase students’ love of reading.
“If they are accountable to each other in their group then they feed off each other and read more,” Librarian Beth Rabb said.
