Hartselle beats Austin, Athens

Hartselle’s softball team picked up its 33rd win of the season by defeating Austin 8-4 at the Grady and Margie Long Softball Complex on April 23.

Kayla Faulk sparked the win by doubling twice, adding a single, collecting four RBIs and scoring a run.

Seven other players logged hits. Baylee Holt had a double and single, one RBI and scored three runs, Taylor Wascavage had a double and a pair of singles, three RBIs and scored once, Sarah Ellen Battles had a pair of singles and scored twice, Ashley Boggs had an RBI single, and Jada Hayes, Haley Jared and Tori Denslow each singled.

Jared was the winning pitcher, allowing four runs on six hits while striking our four batters and walking two in three and one-third innings. Hayes pitched three and two-thirds innings in relief, allowing two hits while striking out two and walking one batter.

Raven Wade and Erin Claborn each had a double for the Lady Black Bears.

Hartselle 1, Athens 0

Hartselle’s Lady Tigers (32-10-1) scored a go-ahead run in the top of the fifth inning and held on for a 1-0 win over Athens Lady Golden Eagles while playing on the road April 22.

The winning run was scored by Hayes on a single by Madeline Sittason.

Kayla Faulk was credited with the win, limiting the Lady Golden Eagles to four hits while striking out five batters and walking one.

M. Palmer had a double and single for Athens.
