Morgan County’s unemployment rate for March 2013 fell to its lowest level in years at 6.4 percent, a full percent improvement from February 2013.

A total of 3,657 Morgan County workers are unemployed, more than 500 less from February’s numbers. The number of employed workers also jumped from 52,388 in February to 53,087 in March.

The overall Morgan County workforce grew by almost 200 people.

The Decatur metropolitan area also saw a similar improvement, as the unemployment rate fell from 7.8 percent in February to 6.8 percent in March. The total number of unemployed workers is 4,872, a decrease of early 700 from February.

The total workforce also increased by nearly 200 workers during that time as well.

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate remained steady statewide at 7.2 percent while the overall workforce increased by nearly 7,000 workers.

“This month we continued to see the labor force grow, which tells us that more people are regaining confidence in the job market,” said Alabama Department of Labor Commissioner Tom Surtees. “Even though the rate didn’t decrease, these are still positive signs.”
