Miles welcome baby boy

I don’t know the percentage of our people who are considered senior citizens, but I know that the number is way up close to one-third or one-half of the population.
I get more upset and disgusted as I get older.
I know times have changed and everyone has to work. So many older citizens are in nursing homes or assisted living homes, but the life of the average person that lives at home and is struggling to pay their bills is horrific.
Since I am out of a job and we live on Social Security, it is very hard. Between Medicare and supplemental insurance, we have barely enough to live on. I know, too, that there are lots of folks who have to get by on less that what we have.
It’s a shame that people who have worked hard all of their lives have to live below what is considered the poverty level. If these people didn’t have to pay out of the nose for Medicare, supplemental insurance and other insurance, they could live lots better.
Somewhere our government has messed up again with our precious elderly population. I could go on and on but it will suffice to say they are getting ripped off.
I want to say I’m sorry I haven’t written this column recently. Please forgive me; it’s been a hard summer.
Eva is hosting Frontier Days this week. It started with a beauty pageant on Saturday and a fun-filled hayride on Tuesday, The parade will be Saturday at 11 a.m. Everyone is invited to come out and take part in the festivities.
Happy belated birthday wishes go out to Larry Bartram on Sept. 6, his granddaughter Kayleigh Casey on Sept. 7, Lynn Randall on Sept. 15, and Troy Smith on Sept. 20.
Happy birthday wishes go out to Megan Niles on Sept. 27.
Mt. View Baptist Church hosted Movie Night on Saturday. The audience enjoyed “The Sound of Music” along with delicious snacks.
Journey Church Youth presented a movie, “Letters from God,” on Sunday. Donations were accepted to help pay for a youth trip.
We have several people on our prayer list: Blue Kent is in Decatur General Hospital with a blood clot in his lungs. Please pray for him. Remember my grandson, Jon Crawford, and Hubert and Ruby Oden who were involved in a car accident last week but were not injured.  Their car was totaled.
They went to Huntsville on Saturday for a Reuben sandwich. Thanks to Brynda Aday for taking them.
Please pray for Jim Campbell who has been in a hospital. Remember Louise also. Maudie Garnett and Donald Niles are back home after spending time in a hospital and nursing home.
We were saddened to learn that the Union Hill community lost two wonderful people this month, Jewel Buckelew and Bobby Hanners. Please pray for their families.
Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs., Dale Miles who have a new baby boy. He was born Sept. 13 and his name is Caden Edward Dale Niles.
