Former Tigers honored

The accolades continue to roll in for a pair of former Hartselle High School baseball standouts for their success on the diamond at the University of Montevallo.
Zach Andrews and Trent Preuitt were recently named to the Gulf South Conference’s East Division All-Decade (2001-10) team after stellar careers at the University of Montevallo.
Players could only be nominated for the All-Time Team if they competed in at least two seasons during the decade and also earned at least one All-GSC First Team honor.
Andrews, a 2004 graduate from Hartselle, carried his success from prep baseball to the college level where he became one of the top closers in Gulf South Conference history.
A relief pitcher for Montevallo from 2005-08, Andrews is currently tied for the conference record in career saves with 25. He is also the GSC leader in appearances with 104.
A first team All-GSC East in 2006, Andrews was named an All-American by both Rawlings/ABCA and NCBWA in 2006. He was a two-time member of the GSC All-Academic Team and was a Second Team All-GSC selection in 2008.
Pruitt, an outfielder for the Falcons from 2002-05, was the Gulf South Conference’s East Division Player of the Year in 2005.
He was twice named to the GSC East Division First Team. In 2005 he was named an All-American by both Rawlings/ABCA and the NCBWA. He ranked first in the nation in 2005 in Toughest to Strike Out.
Pruitt, who graduated from Hartselle in 2001, stole 74 bases in just two seasons with the Falcons and hit 22 homers. He was named a Daktronics All-American in 2007 and was a two-time All-GSC East Division First Team selection.
In 2007, he was selected by the Oakland Athletics in the Major League draft.
West Alabama swept the three major awards on the GSC East Division All-Decade Baseball Team. Third baseman Rob Dahlberg was voted as the East Division’s Player of the Decade after one of the most successful careers in GSC history.
