Business park shown to prospects

Morgan Business Park is still looking for its first tenant even though interest is growing among companies that are looking for a new business location, according to Jeremy Nails, executive director of the Morgan County Economic Development Association.

The 135-acre park opened for business at I-65 and Thompson Road Nov. 1, 2012.

“We’ve shown the property to several prospective investors during the last quarter,” Nails said, “but we don’t have anything concrete we can report at this time.

“Interest in the park is growing, however, and the economy is getting better,” he added.

“We expect to see a surge in new business investments in the near future.”

Hartselle Mayor Don Hall also reported he spent two hours showing the park and other available sites to a business representative two weeks ago.

“I was told the company he represented wanted to make a decision about a new location by the end of the month,” Hall stated. “However, he called back and indicated that the decision was being delayed.

“Another business group also looked at the park but left saying it didn’t fit their plans,” he added.

“The park has all of the necessary infrastructure in place, including easy access to I-65,” Hall pointed out. I look forward to seeing the first business go up. After that I believe we’ll have people coming to us wanting to get in.”

The park is designed to provide executive business locations to advanced manufacturing and logistics facilities as well as high tech industries looking to locate in the southeast.

The facility is operated by the Morgan County Cooperative District, the board of which consists of representatives from Decatur, Hartselle, Priceville, Somerville, Falkville, Eva, Morgan County Commission and the Morgan County Port Authority.
