Priceville approves alcohol requests

Two businesses were approved for licenses to sell alcoholic beverages as a result of resolutions adopted unanimously by the city council at its regular meeting Monday night.

A license request from Tucker’s Grocery to sell beer and wine on its premises was recommended by the town’s Alcohol Review Committee and approved subject to it passing a fire inspection.

A second request from Fredricks’ Equipment Co. for a license to sell alcoholic beverages for off premises use during a special event was also recommended by the ARC and approved.

Town Clerk Kelly Dean said after the meeting that the businesses would receive their licenses after they have been approved by the Alabama Beverage Control Board.

Two other requests, one from Raceway convenience store and Valley Budweiser were tabled until the next meeting on April 8, pending the completion of background checks by the ARC. Raceway is seeking approval to sell beer and wine (off premises) and Valley Budweiser is seeking an alcohol wholesaler’s license.

Public hearings were scheduled for the next council meeting on April 8 for the consideration of alcohol license requests from Raceway, Valley Budweiser and two new applicants, Priceville Foodland and J.W. Steakhouse. Foodland is seeking an off-premises license to sell beer and wine and J.W. Steakhouse is seeking an alcohol restaurant license to sell alcoholic beverages on its premises.

In a separate but related action, the council amended the town’s alcohol ordinance to include package size limitations on alcoholic beverage sales.
