HHS boys open section play with win

Hartselle’s boys soccer team won their first section match of the season against Muscle Shoals Monday night, improving their record to 6-1-2 and 1-0 in section play.

Senior Mitchell Warren opened the scoring in the fifth minute off a cross from junior Ian Cummins. In the 30th minute, Cummins tapped in another goal when the Trojans’ keeper bobbled a save.

In the second half, Mitchell Warren scored off a free kick from just outside the penalty area, making the score 3-0. Ian Cummins poached another in the final minute from a rebounded shot off the Trojan keeper. Cordell Hayes and Will Payne both played keeper in the shut out.

The junior varsity boys soccer team also won Monday night. Branden Walker, Dolan Goldan and Manny Gonzalez all scored in the 3-0 win, improving to 3-2-0 on the season.

Hartselle hosts Decatur Tuesday night and Hazel Green Friday night.

The Tigers’ next section match is Tues., March 12 against East Limestone.
