Escobar’s hat trick leads Tiger soccer to first win

Eribel Escobar completed a hat trick in Hartselle ‘s 6-1 rout of Hazel Green in the rain Tuesday night.

The Hartselle sophomore scored all of his goals in the second half, helping the Tigers (1-0-1) pull away.

Senior Cameron Carlisle scored the first goal of the game followed by senior Will Payne with another before the half, giving the Tigers a 2-0 advantage.

Hazel Green appeared to gain momentum early in the second half on a breakaway goal, but less than five minutes later, Escobar pushed the Tigers lead to 3-1.

Junior Ian Cummins closed the game with another goal.

Hartselle 1, Guntersville 1

The Hartselle varsity boys soccer team opened the season with a tie at Guntersville.

Senior Cameron Carlisle scored in the fifth minute after a corner from Giber Gonzalez. The Tigers had 11 more shots on goal but couldn’t beat Guntersville’s keeper.

In the 65th minute, the Tigers gave up a foul in the penalty area. Guntersville converted the penalty kick, eventually leading to the tie.
