Whip up a little home-based fun this summer

It’s hot.  OK, that’s not a news flash, but still it is hot!   Although the heat can be stifling, I still enjoy summer.  Here’s just a few quick fun things to do with your child this summer.  (Warning some are a little messy and a couple are just gross, but fun!)
Make individualized homemade ice cream.  You need two quart-sized ziploch bags and a heavy duty gallon ziploch bag.  Mix 1 cup of milk, 3 tablespoons sugar, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla or 2 teaspoons cocoa in one small ziploch bag. Close tight and slip into second small bag and seal.  Fill large ziploch bag 1/3 full of ice and add 2-3 tablespoons ice cream (rock) salt.  Put small bag in large one and seal, wrap in towel and gently start shaking. After about 5-10 minutes you have ice cream.
Here’s a question for you:  Will an egg really fry on the concrete? (Told you  some were a little gross.)
How about pudding pops or Kool-Aid pops?
Remember mud pies?
Get a two-fer wash the car and play in the water hose.  (Good idea after the mud pies.)
Too hot for outdoor play?  How about a movie day?
How about old fashioned board or card games?
Learn a new craft
Read a book
Start an indoor garden
Experiment with making your own bubble mix (2/3 cup Dawn or Joy dish detergent, 1 tablespoon glycerin, and 1 gallon of water). What happens if you add more of one thing or the other?
Learn about different types paper airplanes.  What flies best for you?
Do you have other ideas for the lazy, hazy days of summer?  Please share them with me at moms-corner@juno.com.  Hope you have a great summer!
