Hartselle approves volunteer firefighter list

Fifteen people have been approved for the Hartselle Fire Department’s volunteer updated.

The volunteer list includes Stan Holt, Jimmy Gilbert, Chuck Free, Janmeel Moore, Jeff Chunn, David Knox, Brad Irwin, Shawn Banes, Steve Sandlin, J.R. Loughman, Gary Orr Jr. and Alan Host.

The three newcomers to the volunteer roster are Nathan McCarley, Michael Hasse and Dylan Kyle.

Fire chief Steve Shelton said the volunteers meet at least one time a month for a training session, but he said volunteers can also come by and train with the paid firefighters at the station any time.

Shelton said they have instructors certified through the Alabama Fire College to train the volunteers.

The Hartselle City Council also approved the fire department’s annual agreement with Morgan County Emergency Management Agency to provide assistance in the event a nuclear accident at the Brown’s Ferry Nuclear Power Plant.

Shelton said the EMA would help the department purchase of needed equipment and provide radiation related training.

The council also approved the annual ambulance equipment and inspection for County EMS.
