911 to dispatch for Falkville
The Falkville Town Council voted to enter into a contract with Morgan County Emergency Management (911) to provide emergency service for calls involving the police department.
The town already uses 911 for calls where the fire department and ambulance service are needed. The Morgan County Sheriff’s Department currently provides dispatch service for police calls.
Council member David Carroll said the change would bring all emergency services less than one radio dispatch and will save the town money in the long run.
City Clerk Dawn Estes said the town budgets $15,000 a year for dispatch services.
The contract with 911, which will become effective Feb. 1, 2013, calls for a monthly expenditure of $1,910.89 for the remainder of the current fiscal year.
