The Alabama Army National Guard’s 128th Military Police Company, out of Athens, has been called to active duty in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

The 128th held a departure ceremony in Huntsville at the Rock Worship Center in Huntsville on Saturday.

The 128th Military Police Company will deploy more than 170 Alabama National Guard Soldiers to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. The 128th will provide security forces support to units based there.

Several members of the 128th MP are from Hartselle.

The 128th will continue to undergo extensive training at a mobilization station before deploying later this winter.

State and local officials, as well as senior Alabama National Guardsmen, attended the ceremony to send off the Soldiers of the 128th.

The Alabama National Guard has called more than 18,000 personnel to active duty since 9/11 and remains a top contributor among the nation’s National Guard organizations.
