Special congratulations go out to Katie Carter and Kyle Williams, the proud parents of triplets who are shown in the five generations photo below. They are Katie Carter with Bristol Williams, Chuck Carter with Carrington Williams, Corine Horton and Peggy Carter with Autumn Williams. I wish a happy New Year to Katie and Kyle and their beautiful daughters. May God bless and keep all of you safe, healthy and happy during 2013 and all of the years to come!

I recently enjoyed reading this story in the 1963 Agricultural Almanac and I hope that Hartselle Enquirer readers will enjoy it as much as I did.
The story reads as follows:
“Computers vs. Men”
Computers, those intricate machines, which can do lighting fast calculations that would take men years to work out, will never take the place of humans who act with initiative, courage and skill. Rather than having these machines become the masters of men, let men harness the computers to serve mankind. Don’t disregard the value of the computer. It can bring you valuable information that will help you. But a computer is no better than the data fed into it. Unless it starts with what it needs to give you answers, the answers it gives will be inadequate.
Automation, in which computers play a great part, is becoming far more widespread than ever. Many farmers and businessmen have machines doing what was formerly done by men, without even thinking that their operations are automated. But there will always be a need for men of strong and resolute character who are willing to take chances, willing to work hard and willing to look ahead to make this a better world in which to live. A man who is down on his luck can still fight back to success, but a computer that’s out of whack needs a man to fix it.
