The Morgan County Animal Shelter is hoping to find six young puppies a home just in time for the Christmas season.

Claudia Ray, director of the shelter, said the puppies, which are a Shih Tzus breed, were born on Oct. 18 and will be ready for adoption on Dec. 13.

“The mother was rescued on a call,” Ray said. “She had the puppies here at the shelter. They are all wonderful to be around. They’re playful and cute. They just need a good home.”

Ray said any of these pups would make a great addition to a family, especially during the Christmas holiday.

However, she recommended that potential owners think about whether they will have the time and money to invest on adopting a dog, cat or other pet.

“The last thing we want to see is a family adopting a pet and then having to bring it back to us because they don’t have the time or money for the pet,” Ray said. “If you’re going to get a pet this holiday, make sure that you’re going to be able to commit the time and resources to providing for your pet.”

Ray said that anyone who is interested in adopting one of these puppies can contact the shelter during its regular business hours, which are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

In addition to the puppies, the Morgan County Animal Shelter has numerous other animals up for adoption. They have dogs and cats up for adoption every day.

The pets must be spayed or neutered shortly after they are adopted from a shelter.

Ray wanted to thank the Morgan County Commission and the county for their support of the shelter, especially with its new building at 1314 Industrial Drive.

“We have a great facility here,” Ray said. “Every area is air conditioned and heated. It is much cleaner than what we’ve had in the past. We would really like to thank Morgan County for building this great facility and for their support.”
