Hartselle man charged with theft of cologne

A Hartselle man has been charged with stealing cologne from the Belk store in Decatur.

On Dec. 1 at 1 p.m., Officer Wesley Swoopes of the Decatur Police Department responded to a theft at Belk, located at 1801 Beltline Rd. SW. Belk Loss Prevention Associates advised a white male was inside the store stealing men’s cologne.

The officer arrived at Belk and observed the suspect, identified as Dustin Blake King, 27, of 153 Oak Ridge Lane in Hartselle, as he was getting into his vehicle.

The suspect was subsequently arrested and the officer found the cologne inside the vehicle along with several narcotic pain pills.

The value of the cologne was in excess of $500, making it a felony.

King was charged with theft second degree and possession of a controlled substance.

King was booked into the Decatur City Jail. King will be transferred to the Morgan County Jail on a $5,000 bond.
