City to annex last areas of business park

The final areas around the new Morgan Center Business Park are planning to be annexed into the city by next month.

While the majority of the park is already in the city limits, the Morgan County Economic Development Association purchased a home located off of the old Byrd Road, according to city planner Jeremy Griffith.

“The EDA is planning to remove the home from the property so it can be incorporated in the business park,” Griffith said.

In addition to trying to annex this portion of land, the city is also in the process of vacating the rest of the old Byrd Road since the new road, which runs through the business park, is complete.

Griffith added that this portion of the old road could be used for utility maintenance access.

The park has been a joint effort of the seven municipalities within Morgan County, the Morgan County Commission and the Decatur-Morgan County Port Authority, which make up the Cooperative District.

This is the second project that the district’s members have worked together on, the first being the successful development of Mallard Fox Creek Industrial Park in Decatur.

The Cooperative District Board consists of one representative from each of the following: Decatur, Hartselle, Priceville, Somerville, Trinity, Morgan County and Decatur-Morgan County Port Authority.
