Lamar County handles Falkville

VERNON - Sparked by two special teams touchdowns, Lamar County dominated Falkville 43-0 in a Class 2A, Region 7 game Friday night.
The loss dropped Falkville to 1-3 in region play. The Blue Devils are 1-5 overall after losing their last three games.
Lamar County kept pace in the region standings with the win. The Bulldogs improved to 4-0 in the region and remain tied for the region lead.
Eric Hudson and Kenneth Hill scored on punt returns in the Bulldogs’ win.
Lamar County, now 6-0 overall, scored six times in the first half to quickly put the game out of reach.
Hill returned a punt 65 yards for the Bulldogs’ first score of the night. Michael Bradford and Hudson added touchdown runs to increase the lead to 21-0.
Lamar County added three more touchdowns in the second quarter. Lance Bobbitt and Lemetrius Williams both ran for touchdowns, while Hill returned a punt 38 yards for another score.
Lamar County finished the night with 229 yards on the ground. Hudson led the Bulldogs with 51 yards on eight carries.
Falkville returns to action Friday with a region matchup with Sulligent at home. The Blue Devils are fighting to stay alive for one of the four playoff spots from the region.
Lamar County will face Addison on the road.
DAR 49, Priceville 8
GRANT - Tanner Schell’s 85-yard kickoff return to open Priceville’s Class 4A, Region ended up being the lone bright spot in the Bulldogs’ 49-9 loss to DAR Friday in a Class 4A, Region 7 game.
The loss was the fifth straight for the Bulldogs, who had just 70 yards of total offense. Priceville was limited to minus-3 yards rushing.
DAR scored five touchdowns in the first half to take control of the game early.
Chance Ellsworth threw a 2-point conversion pass to Schell to cap the Bulldogs’ scoring.
DAR, now 3-3 overall and 1-3 in region play, got 212 yards rushing from Sam Winkler, who finished with three touchdowns on just 14 carries.
Michael Chandler also topped the 100-yard mark after finishing with 110 yards on eight carries as DAR piled up 454 yards on the ground.
DAR’s Hunter Elkins added a pair of touchdowns in the win.
Springville 38, Brewer 22
FLORETTE - Josh Gibson threw four touchdown passes Friday night to lead Springville to a 38-22 victory over Brewer in a Class 5A, Region 6 matchup on the road.
Gibson threw two touchdown passes each to Jake Gibson and Shaun Fitzgerald in the win.
Springville also got two touchdown runs from Demarcus Tremble.
Brewer fell to 0-6 overall and 0-5 in the region with the loss. Springville is 4-2 both overall and in the region.
Brewer’s Tyler Parker threw a 56-yard touchdown pass to Tyeik Wilson in the third quarter.
Philip Newby scored one of the Brewer touchdowns on a short run with less than two minutes remaining in the game.
Newby finished with 115 yards on the ground on 25 carries.
Brewer returns to action Friday when the Patriots host Pleasant Grove.
