Bethel wins tipoff tourney

Bethel’s JV and varsity boys participated in Cornerstone Christian eighth annual tip-off tournament, The Cougar Classic.

Bethel’s varsity came into the year with high expectations and did not disappoint in their performance at the Cougar Classic.

Bethel faced Cullman Christian in their first round game. Bethel led at the end of the first quarter 19-8 and did not look back defeating Cullman 69-46.

Cullman was led in scoring by Parker Allen with 16.

Bethel was led in scoring by tournament MVP Clint Chisgar with 25 followed by Mitchell Gamble with 23, Tyler Lawrence with 13, Isaac Bunner with 5 and Andrew Dodd with 3.

Bethel advanced to the championship game to play Lindsey Lane Christian.

Bethel dominated from the tip and won with the score of 59-23. Lindsey Lane was led in scoring by Randall Jackson with 10.

Bethel was led in scoring by a trio of players Clint Chisgar, Mitchell Gamble and Tyler Lawrence, all with 13. Isaac Bunner added 9 followed by Andrew Dodd with 6 and Cole Schmidt with 3.

Bethel’s JV, which are rebuilding after their state championship season, played Cornerstone Christian in the first round losing 47-24. Cornerstone was led in scoring by Christian Lewis with 21 and Zach Lewis with 19.

Bethel was led in scoring by their two eighth graders, Mac Murphy with 9 (named to all-tournament team) and Sam Murphy with 8.

Bethel faced Lindsey Lane Christian in their second round game losing 24-9. Bethel’s Point Guard seventh grader Trentin Duper went down in the second quarter with a broken wrist and Bethel could not recover.

Lindsey Lane was led in scoring by Samuel Clemons with 10 and Bethel was led in scoring by Sam Murphy with 10.
