A 10-year-old Somerville boy suffered fatal injuries Aug. 28 when the bike he was riding and a pickup truck collided on Bluff City Road about three miles north of Somerville.
State Troopers identified the accident victim as Jordan Alexander Williams West, a fourth grade student at Priceville Elementary School. He was transported by ambulance to Decatur General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The accident occurred at approximately 4:52 p.m. near the intersection of Bluff City and Lane Roads. The victim was not wearing a helmet. His bicycle was trapped underneath the truck.
Driver of the truck was Lynn Garrison, 45, of Hillsboro. He was not injured and no charges were filed.
Family members described Jordan as a youngster who loved to spend time outdoors. He enjoyed riding his bike, skateboarding and riding a four-wheeler as well as going swimming and taking walks in the woods. He also was passionate about his model cars and Super Heroes collection and enjoyed playing his Xbox 360.
In school he was a quiet, well-behaved child who took an avid interest in science and science lab projects.
Jordan is the second Priceville Elementary student to die in a traffic accident during the past six months. In March, Kennedy Elizabeth Richards, a second grader, died from injuries she sustained in a wreck on Highway 67.over the past six months.
Jordan’s Funeral was Monday at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in New Center Cemetery.
Jordan is survived by his parents, Melinda William of Somerville and Jesse (Jamie) Williams of Falkville, two sisters, two brothers, four grandparents and a number of uncles, aunts, and cousins.
