Carpenter’s Cabinet serves as food bank for area

On Oct. 28, Falkville Church of God will hold a Fall Festival from 4 to 8 p.m. There will be games and a chili cook-off. For more information, call 256-784-5642.

Hot grapefruit juice

2 cups grapefruit juice

2 to 3 cinnamon sticks

Heat juice with cinnamon sticks. Serve in mugs.

Located on Railroad Street in Falkville, Carpenter’s Cabinet is a ministry serving as a food bank for the Falkville, Vinemont, Hartselle and Danville areas. Hours are Tuesdays from 10 a.m., to 2 p.m., and the second Monday every month. from 3-5 p.m.

In order to become a client of this ministry, you must bring picture ID, proof of income for your family, proof of residency in their name, receipts of rent and utility bills. For more information, call 256-612-0747.

Among those from the Falkville Senior Center that went to Danny Huskey Park in Florette last Friday were: Martha Asherbranner, Marilyn Roberson, Charles and Linda Williams, Carol Cole, Vivian Summerford and Willie Powell.

Food tip – nuts in the shell will crack easier if they have been frozen.

Peanut butter dressing

1/2 cup peanut butter

1/2 cup milk

1/2 teaspoon salt

2 teaspoon sugar

3 tablespoons lemon juice

Combine all ingredients and mix well. Serve with vegetable salads.

Peppermint frosting

8-ounce package cream cheese

1 tablespoon milk

2 1/2 cups sifted powdered sugar

1 tablespoon crushed peppermint candy

Blend cream cheese and milk. Gradually add sugar and blend well. Add peppermint and mix again.

Prune dip

1 cup cool whip

1 cup prunes

Combine cool whip and prunes and mix well.

Blueberry muffins

1 1/2 cups sifted flour

1/2 cup sugar

2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 egg, beaten

1/2 cup cooking oil

1/2 cup milk

1 cup fresh blueberries

Preheat oven 400 degrees. Sift dry ingredients in mixing bowl. Combine egg, oil and milk and add to dry ingredients. Stir until blended. Fold in blueberries. Grease muffin cups. Bake 20-25 minutes.

Chocolate facts: There are various shapes and forms of chocolate but there are only 4 types: white, milk, dark and cocoa.
