Funeral for Austin Lee Hughes, 86, of Hartselle will be Fri., Aug. 31, at 1 p.m. at New Center Baptist Church with Bro. Ben Bates officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Mr. Hughes will lie in state for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in New Center Cemetery. Visitation will be Thur., Aug. 30, from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Hughes died Mon., Aug. 27, 2012, at Decatur General Hospital. He was born Dec. 22, 1925, in Lawrence County, Tenn., to Luther Loyd Hughes and Cora Elizabeth Shaffer Hughes. Mr. Hughes was a Korean War veteran and a member of the American Legion. He was also a member of New Center Baptist Church and was an avid fisherman.

He is survived by his wife, Ida Belle Ferrell Hughes of Hartselle; three sons, Thomas Lee Hughes of Palm Springs, Calif., Terry Lawrence Hughes of Hartselle and Timothy Lloyd Hughes of Santa Cruz, Calif.; a brother, Luther Lloyd Hughes and wife Robbie Nell of San Pablo, Calif.; and two surviving grandchildren, Amanda Louise Hughes and Kerri Belle Hughes.
