at Hawks' Smith-Owens stadium
Danville Hawks fans will be watching football from a different point of view this fall.
With the completion of the new press box at Smith-Owens Stadium, the home stands have moved across the field with the press box and now face south.
The new press box with an estimated value of $20,000 according to Morgan County Schools Maintenance Superintendent George Crawford is a joint effort of the county school system and local athletic boosters.
The new facility features separate rooms for both home and visitor coaching staffs, rooms for the respective film crews and a center room for play-by-play announcers.
Below, the facility features an enclosed stairwell and storage for field maintenance supplies and equipment.
Dave Young, president of the Danville Quarterback Club stressed that the project would not have happened without the support of numerous local businesses and the school board.
The county school board directed the construction of the foundation, structural steel and siding of the lower section, while Quarterback Club members and local businesses completed the press box section.
