Danville splits opening tri-match

Danville’s Lady Hawks are off to a 1-1 start after falling to Catholic 2-1 and then defeating at Madison Academy 2-1.

Against Catholic, the Lady Hawks won a challenging opening set 26-24 but then lost the next two 25-16 and 15-9.

After dropping the first set 25-17, Danville took the last two against Madison Academy 25-19 and 15-12.

The Lady Hawks had three players with double-digit kills: Sydni Shelton with 12, Megan Luker with 11 and Kellee Stiles with 10. Shelton added 26 digs and three blocks while Stiles led the team in aces with five.

Setter Charlee Anderson finished her first day as Danville’s starting setter with 36 assists.

The Lady Hawks will play in the Pepsi Tournament at Brewer Saturday beginning at 8:15 a.m.
