Four arrested in separate busts

On Tues., Aug. 21, Morgan County Drug Task Force Agents along with Hartselle Police Department executed a search warrant at 2103 Highway 31 N in Hartselle. Task force agents received numerous complaints during the previous week about drug activity at the residence.

A prior methamphetamine lab occurred at this residence earlier this year. MCDTF A one-pot methamphetamine lab, bio-phase liquid (in a mason jar) and a gas generator along with numerous drug paraphernalia items were found during execution of the search warrant.

Officers found Christy Demastus hiding underneath items in a back bedroom, who had been hiding there about two hours. Other suspects located at residence were Roger Dale Guess Jr. and James Grantland.

Guess and Demastus were arrested and charged with unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance first degree – methamphetamine, unlawful possession of a controlled substance – methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia. They were being held in jail each on a $5,300 bond. Grantland was arrested and charged with loitering in a drug house, carrying a bond of $300.

Guess and Demastus were currently out on bond for a previous arrested for the unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance first degree in May 2012.

Before MCDTF cleared scene, agents were advised of a traffic stop initiated by a patrol unit in Lacey’s Spring area. Agents were advised of another possible Methamphetamine Lab at a residence on East Upper River Road in Valhermoso Springs area.

A sheriff’s deputy made contact with a Todd Turney during a traffic stop of 6841 East Upper River Road, who had precursor items associated in the manufacturing process to produce methamphetamine. Turney also had a passenger, Josh Weaver, who had outstanding felony warrants for his arrest.

Items located in vehicle were as follows: instant cold pack, lithium batteries and drain cleaner. MCDTF Agents arrived on scene of traffic stop and were advised by Mr. Turney that he had some finished product (methamphetamine) at his residence 6841 East Upper River Road.

Turney was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance –methamphetamine, attempt to commit a controlled substance crime along with possession of drug paraphernalia. Todd Turney was transported to the Morgan County Jailon a $5,300 bond.
