11-12 Nationals claim opening pair

The 11-12 year-old Hartselle National team picked up a pair of victories in post season play at their area tournament in Flint.
The Hartselle Nationals downed Madison Central in a tight opening game last Friday, 5-4.
Garrett Turrentine started on the mound for the Nationals. He struck out three and gave up five hits before turning pitching duties over to Spencer Orr.
Orr struck out four to close the game for Hartselle.
Turrentine led the Hartselle hitting with a double, while Andrew Howard finished with a base hit.
Orr returned as the winning pitcher for Hartselle in their second outing of the tournament.
He worked seven innings, facing 25 batters. Orr gave up only two hits with one walk. He struck out eight Decatur batters.
Decatur sent three pitchers to the mound in their search for a win. Jake Morgan started, but was replaced by Gabriel Porter in the third inning. Ben Bullard completed the Decatur trio in the fifth inning.
Andrew Howard lifted the Nationals to victory with a homerun in the seventh inning to seal an errorless game. Ethan Widener and Judd McCravy completed the Hartselle hitting with late base hits.
