A combination of errors and stranded runners in scoring position proved to be the downfall of Hartselle’s Lady Tigers as they were eliminated by Hendersonville, Tenn. 5-2 in the final pool game of the Huntsville Hospital/Bob Jones Invitational Softball Tournament at the Kiwanis Sports Plex on Saturday night. Sixty-one teams from Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky competed in the three-day event.
The loss coupled with two earlier pool play wins left the Lady Tigers with a 17-7 overall record. They are unbeaten in area games.
Hendersonville scored all of its runs in the first two innings as the result of four infield errors intermingled with three hits. The Lady Tigers pushed across two runs on four hits in the third inning but left runners stranded on second and third bases. They also left a runner stranded on third base in the fourth and final inning.
Hartselle’s hitters were Michel Fields with a pair of singles, Audrey McClanahan with a double and Christy Pevahouse, Chandler Orr and Alex Paulsen each with a single.
Meaghan Gray was the losing pitcher. She allowed three hits and struck out three in four innings of work.

Four Hartselle hitters blasted home runs in the six-inning game on Saturday morning. Pevahouse, Paulsen and Hayden Watts each had a solo homer and McClanahan had a two-run blast as well as a single.
Breanna Riley was the winning pitcher. She allowed two runs on five hits while striking out six.
Hartselle 4, Grant County, Ky. 0
In a warm-up game on Thursday night, Hartselle blanked Grant County on the strength of three hits and Riley’s no-hit pitching.
McClanahan had Hartselle’s only extra base hit, a double, and Pevahouse and Anna Beth Hall each singled for the Lady Tigers.
Riley gave up no hits, walked three and struck out 15 in the win.
The game was played in Hartselle along with five others after rain forced the cancellation of all of the Thursday evening games scheduled in Huntsville.
