Man charged with stabbing
An arrest has been made in a stabbing that occurred in Morgan County Sunday night.
Morgan County Sheriff’s deputies charged Jessie Lamar Leeth, 22, of 308 Talucah Road with stabbing Charles Justin Cox, 31, in the left side. Cox was immediately transported to Huntsville Hospital. An investigator was called to the scene.
Morgan County deputies were called to an address in the 200 block of Talucah Road in the Valhermoso Springs community around 7:30 p.m. The call was initiated by a request for emergency medical services.
Medical units waited for law enforcement personnel to arrive and secure the scene.
The investigation revealed that both men had been playing chess in Leeth’s yard. Both were drinking and Leeth became irate when Cox was winning a game.
According to a press release, Leeth allegedly attacked Cox, who defended himself and attempted to hold Leeth in a headlock. Leeth had a pocketknife and allegedly stabbed Cox once. Cox went across the street to his house, where he was assisted by the Talucah Volunteer Fire department.
Leeth was charged with assault in the second degree. A records check indicated that the suspect was currently on probation for a charge of assault in the second degree. He is currently being held pending coordinating any action against Leeth with his probation officer.
Cox is being held at Huntsville Hospital for observation due to the location of the wound.
