Hartselle woman faces charges in Mississippi
A 33-year-old woman with a Hartselle address has been arrested and is awaiting extradition to Mississippi on felony charges resulting from a July 6 pursuit that ended in a rollover wreck.
Amy Marie Hixson, 33, of 1040 Mountain View Drive, Apt. G1 in Hartselle was arrested Mon., July 9, after visiting the Decatur General Hospital emergency room.
The Gulfport (Miss.) Police Department charged the suspect with fleeing or eluding a law enforcement officer in a motor vehicle in violation of Mississippi Code Annotated 97-9-72. This crime is a felony in Mississippi, punishable by up to five years in prison.
On July 6, in Gulfport, Miss., Gulfport Police officer attempted to stop a Chevrolet Suburban. The vehicle failed to stop and police officers allege that the driver, Hixson, attempted to elude the police officers.
The vehicle eventually lost control and rolled over multiple times before striking a utility pole. Hixson, who also has a Gulfport, Miss., address, the apparently ran from the officers on foot and eluded the officers.
On July 9 at 6 p.m., members of the Decatur Police Department received information that Hixson was at Decatur General Hospital receiving treatment for injuries received during the crash in Mississippi.
At 6:20 p.m., Sgt. George Silvestri and Officer Josh Sloan located Hixon in the emergency room. She attempted to leave the hospital but was stopped by the officers.
Hixson will be transferred to the Morgan County Jail awaiting extradition. Her bond was set by a Mississippi judge at $50,000.
