Miller earns NJCAA Pinnacle Award

Former Wallace State student-athlete Callie Miller is a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Pinnacle Award for Academic Excellence recipient for the 2011-12 season, in the list of individual academic honorees announced Monday by the NJCAA.

Miller, a Hartselle graduate, achieved the NJCAA’s highest recognition for a student-athlete after finishing the 2011-12 academic year with a 4.0 GPA. On the volleyball court, Miller was a key part of 95 wins in two seasons, helping Wallace State win back-to-back state championships and make two NJCAA national tournament appearances.

Miller is among nine Wallace State athletes listed in the NJCAA Academic Student-Athlete Awards. Six student-athletes are NJCAA Superior Academic Achievement honorees for compiling a GPA between 3.80 to 3.99. The recipients are baseball’s Judd Sherrill (3.98 GPA) and Davis Blair (3.86); volleyball’s Kris Lawson (3.91) and softball’s Morgan Martin (3.88), Kirsten Gipson (3.83) and Megan Christensen (3.81). Exemplary Academic Achievement recipients (3.60-3.79) are volleyball’s Kaydi Langley (3.79) and Lesley Bemis (3.66).

NJCAA All-Academic Teams will be released later this month.
