Janice Chandler
Somerville

Funeral service for Janice Chandler, 83, will be Tuesday, January 23, 2024
at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Michael Gunter officiating
and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Shiloh Baptist Cemetery.
Mrs. Chandler passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Decatur Morgan
Hospital.  She was born March 24, 1940, in Ieger, West Virginia, to Irvin
Rowe and Polly Blevins Rowe.
She was employed by the State of Alabama and was a School Bus Driver, prior
to her retirement.  She loved to shop, like to read and loved her family
with all of her heart. Preceding her in death were her husband, Luther
Marlin Chandler and her parents.
Survivors include sons Gene P. Dudley, Jr. (Laurie) and Shawn Dudley; daughter, Tena Obasla; brother, James “Aut” Rowe, sister Linda Farrell; two grandchildren, Will and Austin Dudley; three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers are Glenn Lang, Benny Dudley, Will Dudley and Daniel Kirkpatrick. 

 

 

Joe Bryant
Falkville

Funeral service for Joe Bryant, 75, will be Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at
1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Greg Compton officiating and
Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Herring Cemetery.
Mr. Bryant died on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Cullman Regional Medical
Center.  He was born March 27, 1948, in Cullman County, to Harvey Henry
Bryant and Mary Ethel Stinson Bryant.

Mr.  Bryant was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War. He
was a truck driver for Product Distribution, prior to his retirement. He
enjoyed Alabama football and his cats and dogs, and loved his children,
grandchildren and his great grandchild with all of his heart.
He was preceded in death by his son, Joey Bryant, his parents, a brother,
Harvey Henry Bryant, Jr., and wife, Katherine, and a sister, Ella Faye
Pruett and husband Marlin.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon Bryant; sons Jody Borden (Susan) and Jamie Borden (Melanie); four grandchildren Frankie Bryant, Lindsey Borden Smith (Jake),
Jake Borden and Langston Borden; one great-grandchild Maelyn Smith.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Morgan
County Humane Society. 

 

 

 

 

Larry A. Murphree

Hartselle

Funeral service for Larry A. Murphree, 84, will be Thursday, January 25,
2024 at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bobby Ray Halbrooks
officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Antioch UMC
Cemetery.

Mr. Murphree passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024, at Cullman Regional
Medical Center.  He was born September 4, 1939, in Blount County, to Dwight
L. Murphree and Edith McWaters Murphree.

Mr. Murphree was employed by Award Graphics in sales and retired in 2019. He
was a member of the Kiwanis Club for 38 years, a member of FUMC of
Hartselle and was a member of Hartselle Area Chamber of Commerce and active
in those capacities for many years. He was also a Board Member for the
Tabernacle Camp Meeting, loved playing golf, was a big Auburn fan and loved
doing for others. He was a very caring person. He loved his family,
especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife Saundra Haigler Murphree; son Lee Allen Murphree (Gracie); daughter Leesia Ann Johnson; brother, Randall Murphree; sister Gail Pinergar; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.  

 

 

 

Jerry “Frank” Thurman
Decatur

Frank Thurman (Jerry Frank) 70, completed his journey to be with his Lord
Friday January 20th, 2024. It was a long journey for him but he has peace
and rest at last and is now playing with the angels in the Heavenly Band. He
loved people, animals, and music.  He was a devoted Christian and a great
husband, friend, talented musician and teacher and an inspiration for many.

He was born in Morgan County July 3, 1953. He was a graduate of Falkville
High School and an alumnus of the University of Alabama. He was the manager
of AB Stephens Music for over 20 years and the owner of Alabama Outdoor for
a number of years.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis LeMay Thurman, mother Esther Ruth Legg
Cottrell, stepson Allen S. Pendleton, stepdaughter
Bethany Hamilton, and stepson Wesley (Marie) Workman and a number of grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his father Fleetwood Stinson and his stepfather
Wilburn Cottrell.

A Celebration of life will be announced at a later time.  Donations may be
made to Hospice of the Valley or the American Cancer Society. 

 

 

Mary Bradshaw Miller

Hartselle

Mary “Ludie” Bradshaw Miller passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at
Summerford Nursing Home.  She was born December 12, 1938, in Morgan County,
to Carl Armstead Bradshaw and Margaret Louise Simmons Bradshaw.  She was
employed by Dr. Malcolm Prewitt as an Orthodontic Assistant, prior to her
retirement.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Gerald Miller, her parents, a
daughter and son-in-law, Maria and Ricky Schater, and a sister, Carolyn
Parker and her Companion and friend of 25 years – Leslie Doss
Survivors include daughter Cindi Clark (Michael); three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren
No services are scheduled at this time. 

 

 

Kenneth “Kenny” Reeves

Decatur

Memorial Funeral service for Kenneth “Kenny” Reeves, 69, will be Saturday,
January 27, 2024 at 1 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Michael
Gunter officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Reeves died on Sunday, January 7, 2024 at his residence.  He was born
August 23, 1954, in Stuttgart, Germany, to Guy S. Reeves and Margaret C.
McCormick Reeves.

Kenny loved to fish and loved Alabama football. He was a foosball champion
that held two world titles on two different companies’ tables. Mr. Reeves
was a loving brother and adored his nieces and nephews.

Kenny was preceded in death by his mother: Margaret McCormick Lott  and his
brother, Daniel A. Sharpe.

Survivors include father David Lott; brothers James H. Sharp, Michael Lott (Tammy), Eric Lott, Christopher Lott (Shannon) and Berry R. Reeves (Lucy); sister, Deborah Allen (Larry); several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. 

 

Peyton Evan Speegle

Hartselle

Peyton Evan Speegle died on Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at his residence.  He
was born September 25, 1990, in Morgan County to Jeffrey and Lisa Shaw
Speegle.  He was a graduate of the University of Alabama and was a big
Alabama football fan and loved his dogs. Mr. Speegle was employed by FedEx
as an IT Technician and software engineer.

Mr. Speegle was preceded in death by his grandparents, George Shaw and
Erskin Speegle. There will be a Graveside Memorial Service at 2:00 PM in
Mount Tabor Cemetery on January 31, 2024.

Survivors include parents Jeff and Lisa Shaw Speegle; brother Carson Ryne Speegle (Megan); grandmother Demaris Johnson; grandmother Marie Speegle.
In lieu of flowers family requests memorials be made to the Amercian
Diabetic Association.

  

Bette Jones Haden

Somerville

Funeral service for Bette Jones Haden, 78, will be Monday, January 29, 2024
at 11:00 AM at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Peck Funeral Home directing.
Burial will be in Hartselle Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Haden passed away on Monday, January 22, 2024 at Huntsville Hospital.
She was born April 7, 1945, in VIrginia,  to Andrew Meade Jones and
Josephine Frances Ahern Jones.

She was a school teacher for the Arab City School System, prior to her
retirement. She retired in 2013 and was “Teacher of the Year” for Arab City
Schools for the 1992-93 years.

Preceding her in death were her parents and two sisters, Frances Jones
Harouff and Pat Jones.

Survivors include husband Gill Haden; son Patrick Meade Haden; and sister Ellen Williams.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.
 

 

Carol Colley Lott

Decatur

Funeral service for Carol Colley Lott, 81, will be Saturday, January 27,
2024 at 3 p.m. at Peck Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Aaron Kretzchmar
officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Burial will be in Rosehill
Cemetery in Owensboro, Kentucky. 
Mrs. Lott formerly of Owensboro, Kentucky, died on Wednesday, January 24,
2024 at home.  She was born  June 8, 1942, in Tennessee,  to Newel Goston
Colley and Mildred Dove Martin Colley.

Carol never met a stranger and loved her life. Her passion was “adopting”
stray animals, much to the chagrin of her husband. She loved going to the
beach, had TVs in every room – all turned on, was an avid reader,  enjoyed
all types of food, but most of all loved her children and grandchildren so
very much.

Preceding her in death were her daughter, Kara Lloyd, her parents and a
sister, Linda Joan Rousch.

She leaves behind her husband of 41 years Ken Lott; sons Thomas Hopper (Elizabeth);               Tim Hopper (Katherine); Mark Werner, Chris Lott (Brende); daughters Kymberlee Robins (Scott) and Tia Austin (Chriss); brother, Thomas N. Colley (Gail); 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and son-in-law- Levi Lloyd.  

 

 

 

Wayne Leroy Brown  

Mr. Wayne Leroy Brown, 80, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Forsyth Medical Center. He was born January 16, 1944, in Morgan County, Alabama to the late Marvin Otto Brown and Maybelle Johnson Brown. Wayne was a standout three sport athlete at Morgan County High School. His true love was football where he played multiple positions and obtained the nickname “swivel hips”. In high school that is where he fell in love with a cheerleader, Oralean Johnson. After high school, he attended Jacksonville State University.  In addition, he was a contractor that worked on NASA’s Saturn V rocket. Wayne worked for the Boy Scouts of America for 35 years where he served in multiple positions such as district executive, assistant scout executive, and finally director of field service. In Boy Scouts, Wayne was affectionately known as “Bubba”. After retirement, Wayne enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. In addition, he was an avid Alabama Football fan and tried to watch every game. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Elijah Dowell. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Addie Oralean Johnson Brown; three children, Natalie Grubbs (Lance), Danielle Dowell (Charlie), and Marc Brown (Doniel); and five grandchildren, Kelby Lemons, Ryan Lemons, Phoenix Lemons, Gabrielle Dowell, and Stella Brown. We love you Pops, Roll Tide! A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday January 27, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel with Bro. James Reams officiating. Interment will follow at Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Saturday January 27, 2024, at Hayworth-Miller Rural Hall Chapel. Benford Mayfield  

HARTSELLE — A Graveside Funeral service and Interment for Benford Mayfield, 82, will be Sunday, January 28, 2024 at 1:00 PM in Hartselle Memory Gardens with Bro. Randy Lawson officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. No visitation is scheduled. 

Mr. Mayfield died on Friday, January 26, 2024 at Decatur Morgan Hospital. He was born August 20, 1941, in Morgan County to Johnny K. Mayfield and Hazel Harvel Mayfield. He was employed as a Welder for C&C Fabrication for over 50 years, prior to his retirement. He loved playing golf and in his younger days playing basketball. He enjoyed Alabama football and spending time with his two boys. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Penny Lee Mayfield. 

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Nancy Mayfield; sons, Bret Mayfield (Kimberly) and Bart Mayfield (Dena); four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. 

Pallbearers will be family and friends. 

 

Judy Gandy Norris Roy

Hartselle

A graveside funeral service for Judy Gandy Norris Roy, 64, will be Monday,
January 29, 2024, at 1 p.m. at Hartselle City Cemetery with Jordan Norris
and Joe-Walter Norris officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. No
visitation is scheduled.

Judy Gandy Norris now dwells in the House of the Lord – all because she
knows Jesus Christ- the Way. She passed away on Friday, January 26, 2024, at
her residence.  She was born September 26, 1959, in Fairfield, Alabama, to
Walter Richard Gandy and Flora Louise Littleton Gandy.

She was a homemaker and wonderful mother and grandmother for her family. Her
parents and her first husband, Jeffrey Paul Norris, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her husband Glen Edward Roy; sons Jordan Norris (Jessica), Joe-Walter Norris (Krystle); daughters Janice Sims (Bart) and Jesley Juric; brother Rick Gandy (Teresa); eight grandchildren Luke, Julia, Olivia, Evelyn, Evan, Ryland, Wyatt and Joanna.

Pallbearers will be Jordan, Joe-Walter, Rick, Bart, Luke and Evan.

  

Cole Alexander Eddy    

Cole Eddy was born on November 21, 1995, to Randall Lamar Eddy and Tracy Eddy LeCroy. He grew up in the Union Hill area and attended A.P. Brewer High School. He graduated in 2014. Cole passed away on January 26, 2024. 

Cole was employed as a technician by Safelite. He loved playing with his daughter and spending time with his family. He was the most loving and caring husband and father. Cole also enjoyed playing golf and video games with his friends and brothers. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Tracy Eddy LeCroy, and his father, Randall Eddy. 

 Cole is survived by many loving family members including his wife Chloe Thompson Eddy; daughter, Scarlett Ann Eddy; brothers Chase Moore and Hunter Eddy (Rosie); sisters Nikki Eddy Duncan and Elizabeth Orr; stepfather- Sandy LeCroy; grandmother- Linda Ferguson McElyea; five nephews and one niece.  

A celebration of life service will be announced at a later date. 

 

 

Lenny J. Greenhall  

Hartselle  

 

Mr. Lenny J. Greenhall, 70 of Hartselle passed away on January 26, 2024, at his residence with his children by his side, he peacefully went to be reunited with his wife and his savior. 

Born on December 12, 1953, in Guntersville, he was the son of the late Leonard Leo Greenhall and Edith Lure Greenhall. He was a graduate of Austin High School and thanks to the G.I. Bill, he earned his associate degree from Calhoun Community College.  He was active in the United States Air Force from 1972-76 and upon leaving the military held the rank of Sergeant.  He worked for over 40 years in the paint industry specializing in extras and coil cooling.  He worked for corporations Whittaker, Valspar, Morton International and BASF and retired as the vice president of sales for Duracoat/Axalta. 

In 1973 he married the late Debbie Greenhall and in 1977 they moved to Hartselle. They raised their two children in that town and created a love story of devotion and dedication that lasted for 48 years.  A man of many talents, he would go on to landscape, add on and remodel their home numerous times until he had created his wife’s dream home and turned it into perfection.  He was a master storyteller and loved to talk about his travels and places he had been.  His hobbies included watching Bama football, golf and landscaping the yard.  He also loved Water and spent his summers at Orange Beach and boating at Smith Lake. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, Richard and Ferrel Greenhall and four sisters, Linda Sue Wilson, Dale Chambers, Marcia Gulley and Teresa Lynn Greenhall. 

Survivors include his son Walter Len Greenhall (Kim); daughter, Klancy Ann Greenhall; grandsons, Kyle Kulick (Amber), Austen Greenhall (Mary Elizabeth), Dalton Kulick and Jett Greenhall (Katelyn); great- grandchildren Geanna and Georgia Greenhall; companion Cindy Fritz; and sister Janice Greenhall.  

Peck Funeral Home and Cullman Regional Hospice assisted. 

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted in the fall of 2024 at his estate in Hartselle. He will be greatly missed and leaves a legacy of love, honor, humility, work ethic and integrity. 

The Greenhall family would especially like to thank Cindy Fritz.  Although they only knew each other a short time, her time with him was well spent and she made him happy. Very few people in the would go above and beyond the way she did in some of the hardest days of his life.  Cindy, we will be forever grateful for your time, love, patience and empathy.
