Scary stories from the Bible

Todd Barrier

It’s been a fun month leading up to Halloween – some call it the spooky season.

The world seems to love scary stories, especially this time of year. There are some scary stories in the Bible as well. The big difference between the scary stories in the Bible and the ones during Halloween is that the ones in the Bible can help you. That’s right, a lesson can be learned.

One such story is the story of Ananias and Sapphira in Acts 5. This story centers around a husband and wife who lied to God about some money they claimed to have given up but kept part of it. This leads to their untimely death. The saddest part of this story is that we see them not only losing their life, but an eternal home in Heaven with God. What are some lessons we can learn from this story? Here are just a few. First, be a giver and don’t hold anything back from God. Next, don’t lie. This seems like an easy one, but just like Ananias and Sapphira, we sometimes find ourselves in the middle of a lie. Lastly, there are consequences to our actions, so we must always strive to make Godly decisions.

If you take these simple lessons and apply them to your life, instead of a sad story, you can have a story that ends happily ever (eternally) after.
