Falkville High School celebrates 100 years

Coinciding with homecoming week, Falkville High School will hold its centennial celebration Sept. 15 from 4:30-6 p.m.

The high school was founded in 1923 on the campus of Falkville Normal College, a private school and college which graduated its first class in 1902 of seven people according to a book celebrating the high school’s 75th anniversary compiled by town historian Rhona Summerford.

In the fall of 1925, the school moved to a new building at its current campus, where it has grown with additions that include two gymnasiums, a cafeteria, a library, elementary building, an outdoor classroom and fully equipped science lab.

The current high school building was constructed in 1936, and the original building on the current campus was torn down in the late 1980s to make room for new additions.

The school building, located at 72 Clark Dr., Falkville, will be open during those hours and the halls and auditorium will be filled with memorabilia for visitors to see.

Those who have memorabilia they would like to include are asked to bring it to the school between 3:15-4:15 p.m. Sept. 15. It is recommended displays of sentimental value are not left alone.

Falkville will play Tanner at home at 7 p.m. Sept. 15.
