Enquirer names all-area softball team

The 2023 softball season was filled with tremendous performances by players and coaches. The Hartselle Enquirer is proud to present the 2023 Enquirer all-area softball team.

Player of the Year

Bentley Black, Priceville, Sr.: The 4A first-team all-state selection hit .484 with 61 hits, including 30 extra-base hits with nine home runs, 62 RBIs and 64 runs scored while stealing 18 bases.

Coach of the Year

Matthew Morris, Priceville: Matthew Morris led his Priceville Lady Bulldogs to a school record 40 wins, a regular-season area championship, and an area tournament championship. His team finished fourth in the northwest regional tournament.

The players

P: Blayne Godfrey, Hartselle, Jr.: The Auburn commit finished 16-11 with 274 strikeouts in 153 innings. She eclipsed the 1,000 career strikeout mark late in the season.

P: Bronwyn Borden, Brewer, Sr.: Borden had 193 strikeouts in 120 innings while finishing 12-2 with 11 shutouts.

P: Maddie Black, Priceville, Jr.: Black finished 15-5 with 102 strikeouts in 112 innings and a 2.31 ERA.

P: Elizabeth Murphy, Priceville, Fr.: Murphy finished 15-4 with a 2.24 ERA.

C: Wrozlie Barnett, Priceville, Jr.: Barnett hit .427 and scored 59 runs while stealing 16 bases.

C: Brityan Godfrey, Hartselle, So.: Godfrey hit .336 with 42 hits and 23 RBI.

IF: Kaelyn Jones, Hartselle, Jr.: The UT-Martin commit hit .493 with 64 hits (including 11 extra-base hits), 44 runs scored, and 26 RBI while stealing 38 bases. She broke the school record of 223 career hits.

IF: Katie Norgard, Hartselle, Fr.: Norgard finished her freshman season with 12 home runs and 33 RBIs while hitting .294.

IF: Allie Denson, Priceville, Sr.: Denson hit .452 while scoring 58 runs.

IF: Isabella Guest, Danville, So.: Guest hit .409 while scoring 26 runs.

IF: Marlee Jones, Brewer, Sr.: Jones hit .396 with 12 doubles and 37 RBIs.

IF: Aubrey Reed, Danville, So.: Reed hit .360 with 41 hits, 27 RBI and 14 runs scored.

OF: Cheyenne Lucas, Brewer, So.: Lucas hit .398 while going a perfect 43 of 43 in stolen bases.

OF: Brooklyn Stiles, Hartselle, Jr.: Stiles hit .292 with 35 hits, 30 runs scored and 26 RBI.

OF: Katie Gillott, Hartselle, So.: Gillott hit .282 with 29 hits, 26 runs scored and 21 RBI.
