Masyn Marchbanks scores 1,000th point in win over No. 2 Athens

ATHENS – Masyn Marchbanks capped off the Lady Tigers upset win over Athens on Tuesday night by scoring her 1,000th point.

Marchbanks scored 13 points to lead Hartselle to the win over No. 2 Athens 40-35.

Her 1,000th point came on the first of two made free throws late in the fourth quarter as the Lady Tigers were holding on to a three-point lead.

Hartselle trailed the Lady Golden Eagles 21-17 at halftime after only scoring five points in the second quarter.

The Lady Tiger defense took over the game in the second half as they held Athens to only five points in the third and nine in the fourth.

Marchbanks, who scored six points in the first quarter, scored seven points in the fourth. She finished with three 3-pointers and was four of six from the free-throw line. She also had five rebounds and four steals.

Lillyanna Cartee added 10 points and six rebounds while Hailey Holshouser had seven rebounds and four assists.

Athens (16-3) was led by Caroline Bachus, who finished with 10 points.

Hartselle (13-10) avenged an early season 49-38 loss to the Lady Golden Eagles.
