Duck hunting season will be open until Jan. 27, 2019. Hunters are allowed six ducks per day.
Jan. 6, 1961—Many local hunters went to Flint school tonight for a program and film sponsored by Ducks Unlimited.
Jan. 6, 1961—Several prospective teachers from MCHS are in Montgomery this weekend for the annual convention of the FTA. Mrs. Faye K. Parker is the sponsor of the group. Jan. 6, 1961—Mr. and Mrs. Harold D. Posey, Hartselle 4, are the proud parents of a son born this morning at Bank Street Hospital in Decatur.
Jan. 7, 1961—The defending SEC basketball champs, the Auburn Tigers, will be on TV tonight as they host the Mississippi State Bulldogs. If Auburn wins, this would be their 37th consecutive home victory. (State ultimately won by a score of 56-48.) Alabama currently is not hot in basketball. Thus far this season under new Coach Hayden Riley the team has a 2-8 record.
Jan. 8, 1961—Tonight while faithfully attending the regular service at the Hartselle Church of God, Mrs. Charlie Day passed away quietly. The death of Mrs. Day, 57, was attributed to a heart attack.
Jan. 8, 1961—Ed Templeton, 78, known to his friends as “Uncle Ed,” died at the home of Hartselle relatives tonight. Mr. Templeton was a businessman in Hartselle for many years.
Jan. 8, 1961—The Morgan County Singing Convention met today at Bell Springs Baptist Church on Lacon Mountain. Grady Parker of Hartselle is the chairman of the singing group. Mr. Parker has been an active participant in Morgan County singings since the 1930s. Directors during the day included Hershel Brown, Virginia Bodley, Coleman Holmes, Ralph Brown, Mrs. Ed Ward, Leon Beck, Fred Summerford, Bud Reid, Cullie Gibson, Vernon Sharp, Mrs. Jack Miller, Clifton Long, Ray Griggs, Plummer Oden, Fred Smith, Ed Ward, Rev. D. R. Jarrett, Homer Shoemaker, Melvin Hardin, Jack Miller, Acie Hightower, Louis Miller, Letha Jane Summerford, Doyle Walker, Mrs. Vernon Sharp, Mrs. Don Key, Frank Morgan and Arthur Lee.
Jan. 9, 1961—The Morgan County Board of Registrars is now in session at the courthouse to add to the rolls the names of those newly qualified to vote. No regular elections are scheduled for this year.
Jan. 9, 1961—Dr. Fred Sherrill Jr., has now opened his medical offices at the Falkville Nursing Home. The Sherrill family had originally intended to serve as missionaries abroad, but Mrs. Sherrill’s health prevented this.
Jan. 10, 1961—Auburn football Coach Ralph “Shug” Jordan says he does not favor relaxation of current rules related to substitution. “All I read is how everybody wants to go back to two platoons,” Coach said. “Well, I don’t.”
Jan. 10, 1961—Four Danville High students presented a program, “Why Go to College?” at the PTA meeting. The speakers were Larry Jones, Faye Bates, Martha Teague and Don Reid.
Jan. 10, 1961—Cullman beat MCHS 62-56 in basketball here tonight. Luter was the leading scorer for Hartselle with 12 points.
Jan. 10, 1961—Perry Orr is currently a patient at Decatur General Hospital. Sue Johnson, who lives on 523 Frost Street, has been discharged.
Jan. 11, 1961—Mrs. Lula Kent, 64, is very ill at her West End Terrace Hartselle home.

Jan. 12, 1961—Roy Ramey, 39, Hartselle 1, was killed today while working on the Fairview School construction site. His funeral will be Saturday at Johnson’s Chapel, along with burial in the adjacent cemetery.
Jan. 12, 1961—Gene Eason, Hartselle 3, was elected vice president of the Morgan County Milk Producers Association at their annual meeting. Wayne Humphrey, Hartselle 3, is the outgoing president.
