Patriots shutout Danville Hawks in season opener

By Matt Latham

For the Enquirer

The first game of the season for the Brewer Patriots ended well as the Patriots shut out the Danville Hawks 42-0. A stingy defense that controlled the game for the Patriots led to great field position the entire night allowing the offense to rack up 42 points.

The Patriot defense only allowed the Hawks a total of five first downs and 101 yards of total offense. Leading the way for the Patriot defense was the Navy commit and senior Youngblood who had a total of seven tackles with one assist. Offensively for the Patriots, the playmaker for the night was junior wide receiver #16 Kris Bramlett, who had three catches for 76 yards and three touchdowns.

The Patriots compiled a total of 328 yards offense and 11 first downs. 150 yards were through the air, with  Patrick Johnson completing 12 of 19 passes. The Patriots gained 178 yards on the ground with  Jonathan Morgan leading the way with 73 yards on 12 carries. Others scoring touchdowns for the Patriots on the ground were Junior running back Jonathan Morgan, junior RB  Dawson Defreeze and junior QB Patrick Johnson.

This Friday, both the Patriots and Hawks will begin region play on the road. The Patriots will travel to their regional rival Arab and the Hawks will be visiting North Jackson.
